An Earthquake in Virginia?

This post is completely non-pregnancy related, other than the fact that we'll have an exciting story to tell our child one day. Today, we experienced an earthquake. In Virginia. I am starting to think that all these extreme, record-breaking weather events are a sign we shouldn't live here for much longer. I was sitting at my desk on the 3rd floor of our building at work typing an e-mail and started to feel the floor shake, which isn't too uncommon. It sometimes happens when we get copy paper delivered and they drop the boxes on the floor. However, it gradually intensified and my computer monitor was shaking, and my water bottle bounced off my desk and onto the floor. The entire building was shaking and I was grabbing onto my desk not knowing what to do. My first thought was that the courthouse I work at was bombed, and I was going to die in there. I was terrified. My coworkers were diving under their desks or running through the hallways yelling to get out of the building. I was was able to call Matt at my desk before I evacuated and I said, "Did you just have an earthquake there?" Of course he had. Come to find out later that the 5.8 magnitude quake that hit at 1:51pm was felt all the way from the Carolinas up to New York. We got the brunt of it, as the epicenter was about 60 miles from DC. Our office evacuated to our emergency meeting location. It seemed like every person working in Alexandria was pouring out into the streets. Everyone (including myself) was trying to use their phones, but the it was nearly impossible to call out due to the volume of people trying to contact their family and friends. I was able to get a hold of my parents and Matt. We ended up being evacuated for about an hour and half before we were told we were being allowed back in the building for 15 minutes to get our things and go home, since they were still investigating the stability and security of the building. Upon reentering the office, I was shocked to see all the drawers that had come open and stuff that had been knocked over. I headed home, hitting traffic, of course. I was so happy to make it home after a crazy day. Matt arrived home about 1/2 after me, and we were happy to find Pooh seemingly unphased by the day's events. Despite the sheer fear, we all came home from work today. We are so blessed :)
