We had a largely successful appointment at the Prenatal Assessment Center at the Walter Reed National Naval Medical Center (WRNNMC) this morning. This was the appointment to check my amniotic fluid (since the radiologist at Ft. Belvoir told us it was low). This was our first trip to WRNNMC and unlike Ft. Belvoir, we were NOT disappointed. Even with traffic, it took us less than an hour to get there and get on base. Matt's highlight was the Dunkin' Donuts located in the hospital. :) We had plenty of time to grab a coffee (for Matt) and donuts and sit and enjoy them together before my appointment. Since the main Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. closed about a month ago, this place was SWARMING with people. Nonetheless, we were seen within 10 minutes of our appointment time. The ultrasound technician was very nice and knowledgeable and told us what we were seeing on the screen as she was doing it. She was finished with all the measurements within 15 minutes and confirmed for us, that it is indeed a boy! The doctor came in afterwards and said that everything was great: my fluid levels, the heart, the brain, and that the baby is "a nice size" (meaning not freakishly large, or alarmingly small). He said that measuring amniotic fluid levels this early in a pregnancy is very subjective and it is more of an issue during the third trimester. The only concern was the close proximity of the placenta to my cervix. They like the two to be at least 2cm apart, and mine are a little under a centimeter in distance. He said it was nothing to worry about and it would likely remedy itself within a couple weeks; they will see me again in 6-8 weeks and check it again. If it hasn't moved, he said a vaginal birth would not be recommended. All in all, it was a great appointment. After so much hassle with Ft. Belvoir, WRNNMC was a breath of fresh air. I was so relieved that everything was okay and that FINALLY we had such a pleasant and stress-free visit and great care. Although it isn't close to my work, we are considering switching permanently to this facility for the rest of my pregnancy because of great experience (and our bad experiences at Ft. Belvior). Matt and I even got our flu shots before we left and were on the road within an hour! Below is a profile shot of Baby [Boy] Biga. Matt doesn't understand, but I already think he has Matt's nose :)
