My last day at my job was November 18th (leaving to be a stay-at-home mom, and get prepared in the meantime) and it seems as though that was a good decision, as I have so many doctor appointments nowadays, I wouldn't have much time to be at work!
Gestational diabetes has been a big challenge for me. I have had to drastically change my diet, to include eating 6 times a day (3 meals and 3 snacks) at a certain interval of time, as well as eating a certain amount of carbohydrates during each of my 'feedings.' The first week was REALLY hard, as I had to significantly cut back on the amount of food I was eating (and forgo sweets ~ my favorite... especially at the holidays). I was doing everything I was supposed to be doing, and my glucose levels were still too high. I had to tweak my diet even more, and even then, my fasting levels were higher than considered normal. So, last week I was put on a medication called glyburide to assist my body in processing the sugars. I was assured by the doctors and nurses that I had done everything I could with my diet and exercise, but my placenta was working against me, and the medication should help to bring my numbers down. Since being on the medication, my numbers have improved, though I do have a few unexplained high ones every now and then. I go back to the doctor tomorrow (one of the many) to have them review my numbers since being on the medication and see where we go from here.
One of the 'perks' of having gestational diabetes is having to go to the doctor so much. (What pregnant woman doesn't love more ultrasound time with her kiddo?) I have to go in at least once a week for a non-stress test for them to monitor the baby's heartbeat and activity, etc. I had my first one today and Baby Biga was an all-star, moving around like a champ. The nurse commented on how he was going to "keep his momma busy." :)
I also had a follow-up appointment at Bethesda today, after my last one where I was told the baby was on the large size. I was extremely relieved to find out that he was probably going through a growth spurt at the time, as today, he measured in the 52nd percentile (not 80th like last time!), and was average size for a baby; not too big, and not too small. Today he measured 5lbs 8oz, so he did gain a little weight since last time, but not a significant amount like I was expecting after my last visit. We got to see him making faces at us with his lips, and practicing his breathing. I got a great report from the doctor today; it was great to finally go in and not hear that whatever issue I was in there for was fine, but there was another issue and had to come back.
We can't believe there's only 6 weeks left until our little bundle arrives!
The nursery is almost finished and now we're just continuing to try and get mentally prepared for this life-changing event.

You look so cute!!! Just remember not to get that due date stuck in your head as the arrival date...Sam had it in mind to come at week 38! You don't want to be too shocked and overwhelmed if the little guy wants to make his appearance sooner...or if you have to go that route because of complications with the GD. :) I'm glad everything's on track!!! :D
