Andrew's 8-Month Update!

How is it September already??  Another month has come and gone and our little Andrew is continuing to grow and amaze us each day.

We took Andrew to the pediatrician for a weight check followup to his last appointment.  At his last appointment he was in the 4th percentile for his weight, however after the Upper GI scan revealed nothing, we were just left to keep on doing what we've been doing.  Due to a number of circumstances, I stopped breastfeeding and pumping last month and started giving him exclusively formula (plus his solid foods).  It was a difficult decision for me, as I had planned to breastfeed him for a year, but I still feel like I did a great job doing it for the length of time I did, and have been reassured of that by my family, pediatrician, and lactation consultant.  It is a relief to finally feel like I have my body back, if not a little 'too good', as I have put back on a pound or two since I'm not burning those 500 calories a day from breastfeeding!  Anyway, I digress.  At Andrew's appointment a week ago, we were disappointed to find out that he weighs a little more than 15 pounds, putting him in the zero percentile for his weight.  Most babies double their birth weight by the time they are 6-months old, but Andrew has not.  Our pediatrician is not OVERLY concerned because he is in fact gaining weight, just not as rapidly as she'd like.  Now that he is on formula, we have been instructed to give him concentrated formula bottles (more formula powder with less water mixed in) to get him more calories.  In our mind, the issue is still the spitting up.  If he didn't spit up, he'd be at a fine weight.  However, we can't do anything about that for the time being.  We have upped his formula intake as well as his solid foods, adding more cereal and fruit and veggies and introducing some Gerber Puffs snack cereal which he can now feed himself!  I even attempted to feed him little pieces of avocado.  The Puffs dissolve in his mouth, but the avocado obviously doesn't so he kind of just pushed them around in his mouth before they ended up on his tray.  :)  Not to mention, the rest of the day, I was cleaning green spit up stains out of everything.  Won't be doing that again for a while!

We will go back to the pediatrician at the end of this month and hope to get better news then and will provide everyone with another update.  As I said though, she isn't overly concerned, especially because of his advanced development.  In just a few weeks time, Andrew started sitting on his own, feeding himself, and CRAWLING!  Yes, our little Bubba is on the move!  He started out 'dragging' or doing an army crawl type of thing, but he's full on crawling now ~ wherever he pleases.  He loves exploring!

I can't get the video to upload onto the blog, but you can see it by clicking here.

While it is still summer, I bought a little inflatable pool and Andrew and I took a dip to cool off.  He REALLY loved it!

Hope everyone had a Happy & Safe Labor Day weekend!
